Maintain – Don’t Gain | Week 3

Fit Fall, Well Winter

Reduce Stress to Thwart Weight Gain

Stress can cause weight gain because it temporarily suppresses your hunger, resulting in binge eating later; compels you to eat as a coping mechanism; and slows your metabolism.

Take Action!

Choose a stress-reducing activity and put it into practice this winter.

You’ll be happy you did!

Help maintain your weight by reducing your stress.

Try these tips:

Prioritize your to-do list. Time management is a major stress reducer! Figure out what is most important and finish those tasks first.

Plan ahead. Don’t wait until the last minute to start preparing for the holidays. Reduce your stress by creating a plan to tackle all of the work so you’re still able to enjoy the season.

Get more sleep. Staying up late to prepare and
get things ready for the holidays? If so, you may be contributing to your stress. Sleeping is both a relaxing and restorative activity.

Meditate. A quick, 10-minute session can help relieve negative emotions and improve your mood.

Exercise regularly. Even a simple activity like walking can reduce stress. Plus, it will help you maintain your weight!

Read a book. If all you read during the week are emails, free up some of your day to read for pleasure. Getting lost in a good book is a great way to unwind!

Find a relaxation technique that works for you. Not every activity is a good fit for everyone, so experiment until you find one you like!
