Try these tips to help you get through the holiday season without breaking the bank!

Create a budget. If you don’t know where to start, learn how here.

After all of your bills and mandatory expenses are paid, determine the amount of money you can use toward holiday purchases.

Write or type a list of who you need to buy for and what you’ll need for the holidays.

Figure out how much you want to spend on each person or item, keeping the total as close as possible to the amount of money you have available.

Curtail your discretionary spending where you can to save a little extra cash. For example,
if you buy lunch every day at work, pack your own to save money.

Use your credit card with caution. Interest and fees could end up making your purchases cost more than the price on the tag.

Look for sales, promotions and/or coupons to save on gifts during the holiday season.

Shop at discount stores. Sometimes it takes a good eye to spot gifts at these places, but when you find one worth purchasing, you’ll feel like you won the lottery.

Consider making gifts and cards. They generally have greater meaning behind them because you took the time to make them.

Don’t over spend on presentation. Wrapping paper, ribbon and gift tags are very pretty and make gifts look good, but usually end up in the trash.

Be time sensitive. If you’re mailing gifts to friends and family out-of-state, shop for them first. This will help you get the best shipping prices and allow enough time for the gifts to arrive.

Take Action!

How will you keep your wallet healthy this holiday season? Put some of the tips above into practice!
